Chip Sealing

A new service we are offering in 2024 is chip sealing, also known as tar & chip, which is a great way to transform your gravel drive or preserve your existing pavement for a fraction of the price of new asphalt.

Chip Sealing is a road surface treatment that combines one or more layers of asphalt with one or more layers of fine aggregate. In this process, a layer of liquid emulsion is spread over the existing drive or pavement, followed by the application of aggregate chips. The chips are then pressed into the binder using rollers, creating a new surface layer. This technique is commonly used to extend the life of a road by providing a new wearing surface and to improve traction.

One of the main advantages of chip sealing is its cost-effectiveness compared to other road resurfacing methods, like a full asphalt overlay. It provides a significantly improved surface at a lower cost, making it a popular choice for maintaining lower-traffic roads. Additionally, chip sealing can seal small cracks and imperfections in the underlying road surface, slowing down the deterioration process. The rough texture of the aggregate provides good skid resistance and a comparatively quieter surface.*The picture above (our shop), is actually a Spray Patched drive which in some instances is even more affordable than chip sealing. however both methods leave you with a similar appearance & durability.
